Forests cover less than 5% of Tajikistan’s land area, and this has remained constant over the period 1990 to 2015. 70% are primary forests, and 25% are plantations.
Illegal logging and forest degradation are widespread, driven in part by demand for fuel wood (Eurasianet, 2011). The government also has limited capacity for forest management and control.
