Sri Lanka

One third of Sri Lanka’s land area is covered by forests, less than 10% of which are primary forests. The rate of deforestation in the country has been relatively stable, with an annual rate of 0.4% for the period 1990-2015 (FAO, 2015).

There are occurrences of illegal logging, but these are mostly small-scale and have not had a major impact on the country’s forests to date.
