Lithuania

One third of Lithuania’s land area is covered by forest, just under one quarter of which are plantations. Forest cover has been expanding over the period 1990-2015, at an annual rate of 0.5%. Two thirds of the country’s forests are owned by the state (FAO, 2015).

Illegal logging is not a major problem in the country. As an EU Member State, Lithuania is required to implement the EU Timber Regulation, which came into force in March 2013.
