Finland

Forests cover about 70% of Finland’s land area, of which 30% are owned by the state. Forest cover has remained stable over the period 1990-2015, increasing at a rate of just 0.1% per year (FAO, 2015).

Finland is a major exporter of pulp, paper and paper board, but the country also imports significant volumes of timber, particularly from Russia. As an EU Member State, Finland is required to implement the EU Timber Regulation, which came into force in March 2013.
