Over half of Fiji’s land area is covered by forests. The islands’ forest cover has been increasing steadily since 1990, at an annual rate of 0.3%. This growth is due in part to an increase in the area of plantations; in 2015 they accounted for 15% of the country’s forests (FAO, 2015).

There are occurrences of illegal logging but these are relatively small-scale.
