Denmark

Forests cover over 10% of Denmark’s land area, of which 75% are plantations (FAO, 2015). In 2011, 3 million cubic metres of timber was produced, compared to imports of over 5 million cubic metres (roundwood equivalent) of timber and timber products; less than 20% of imports came from outside the EU (ETTF, 2013).

The government introduced guidelines on the public procurement of sustainable timber in 2001, and these were revised in 2010 and 2014 (Brack, 2014). As an EU Member State, Denmark is required to implement the EU Timber Regulation, which came into force in March 2013.
