Czech Republic

Forests cover about one third of the Czech Republic’s land area, almost all of which  are plantations. Forest cover has remained stable over the period 1990-2015, increasing at a rate of just 0.1% per year (FAO, 2015).

According to the WWF ‘government barometer’, which assesses European governments’ response to illegal logging, the Czech Republic is one of the lower ranking countries in Europe (WWF, 2014). As an EU Member State, the Czech Republic is required to implement the EU Timber Regulation, which came into force in March 2013.
