Cyprus

Forests cover nearly 20% of Cyprus’s land area, of which less than 10% are primary forests and 70% are owned by the state. Forest cover increased between 1990 and 2015 at an annual rate of 0.3%, although the majority of this growth happened between 1990 and 2000 (FAO, 2015). Illegal logging has been reported in the island’s protected areas. As an EU Member State, Cyprus is required to implement the EU Timber Regulation, which came into force in March 2013.
