Chile

Over 20% of Chile’s land area is covered by forests, 25% of which are primary forests. The majority of forests are privately owned, with one quarter owned by the state. The forest area has been increasing since 1990 due to the expansion of plantations; from 1.7 million hectares in 1990 to 3 million hectares in 2015 (FAO, 2015).

There is some illegal logging in the country, but it has received little attention from the media or NGOs in recent years.
