Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Forests cover over 40% of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s land area. 80% of the country’s forests are state-owned, and 50% are plantations. Forest cover has remained at the same level over the period 1990 to 2015 (FAO, 2015).

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a net exporter of timber and timber products, mainly to countries within the EU (Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2011). Illegal logging is a problem in the country. A Regional Action Plan to combat illegal forestry activities in the South Eastern Europe region was implemented between 2012 and 2014 (Regional Environmental Center, 2012).
