Almost half of Austria’s land area is forested. 20% of these forests are state-owned. The country’s forest cover has been increasing gradually over the period 1990-2015, at an annual rate of 0.1% (FAO, 2015). As an EU Member State, Austria is required to implement the EU Timber Regulation, which came into force in March 2013.
