Philippines

Over 25% of the Philippines are covered by forests. This percentage has been rising for the past few years, in part due to a government reforestation programme. More than 90% of the Philippines’ forests are owned by the state. One fifth of the country’s forests have protected status, and nearly half are managed by local communities (FAO 2015).

Illegal logging is widespread in the country. However, the government has been putting significant effort into law enforcement to tackle the problem.
