Guinea-Bissau

Nearly 70% of Guinea-Bissau’s land area is covered by forests, including extensive areas of coastal mangrove swamps. The annual rate of deforestation was 0.5% for the period 1990-2015 (FAO, 2015).

Illegal logging is widespread in the country. The situation worsened after a military coup in 2012, which resulted in a breakdown in the rule of law.
